Stop Arguments FOREVER with these 5 Simple Questions

We’ve all been there. The argument that never seems to end, or that happens over and over again.

It’s one of the most dreaded things to experience in a relationship, and no matter how hard you try, it will always hang over your head.

Well, thankfully, there are ways to help combat this! It just takes a little time and patience, but before you know it, the argument will be something of the past.

Here are the main 5 questions, we recommends for overcoming that inescapable argument:

  1. What is one behavior that we can both change that usually leads to arguments?

Making sure to own your part makes it easier for both sides to have a conversation.

  1. If we look past the thing we’re talking about, what really bothers you the most?

Dive in deep and discuss what’s actually bugging you underneath the logic.

  1. How can we remind ourselves to keep appreciating our relationship, even when we are disagreing?

Accordining to relationship scientists the Gottmans’ keeping a culture of appreciation for your relationship – even in a fight is one of the largest factors of long-term relationship success.

  1. What’s a signal we can agree on – when it’s time to take a breather when we are getting too intense?

Did you know it takes around 25 minutes for your nervous system to calm down once you’ve got really pissed off? Did you also know, if you’re too tired, hungry, thirsty or stressed you make worse decisions than if not? Taking a break, having a glass of water and calming the f___ down is huge.

  1. What is the best weekly check-in time to chat about anything that has been bothering us so things don’t build up?

Not letting things build up is absolutely massive. Creating a space to address issues feels weird the first time, but once you’re in the habit is amazing. It can be a very positive experience.

But going through this will help you de escalate, create a system to not let things build up on and, have a mutually agreed time out.

Remember, relationships, especially arguments, require action, follow-through, and commitment; meaning it will be up to you and your partner to make sure you hold each other accountable and stick to the agreements you’ve made

But after you master those steps… you’ll be good to go!
