Life can get stressful sometimes, and that can have a negative impact on your mood.
Try out this meditation exercise with your partner to reduce your stress levels and stabilize a positive mood.
There’s no right or wrong way to meditate alone, or with your partner, the choice is up to you as a couple. However, if you’re looking for ideas this exercise is a great starting point.
For this exercise, all you’ll need are your bodies. This practice revolves around sensual mindfulness. This means acknowledging what thoughts and feelings arise from your senses, and having the opportunity to reflect on them and share them with your partner.
Studies shown that mindfulness was associated with increased self-awareness and reduced emotional reactivity.
You can enhance your environment with music, lighting, and scented candles or diffusers. These things will increase the number of sensations you can feel together. You’ll want to sit or lay together and explore your senses.
Try asking yourselves these questions during your meditation:
How does my body feel in this position?
How do the parts of my body feel, jaw, neck, shoulders, arms, fingers, back, hips, legs, feet? (Try relaxing each part of your body as you go through the list, moving toward comfort.)
What do I see? What thoughts and feelings does this bring up?
What can I hear? What thoughts and feelings does this bring up?
What can I smell? What thoughts and feelings does this bring up?
What can I touch? What thoughts and feelings does this bring up? (This is a great time to try touching each other, and going over the same questions. You may want to even try a taste of your partner at this time.)
Meditation is all about being present and focusing your attention. It's an amazing way to relax, concentrate better, and become more aware of yourself.
This exercise aids in physical intimacy, reduces stress, enhances connection, and will improve your mood.
