Positive self-talk is a powerful tool that can help you improve your relationship.

When you talk to yourself in a positive way, you are more likely to feel confident and secure in your relationship.

This can lead to better communication, more trust, and a stronger bond with your partner.

With this exercise we want to facilitate building trust and self-esteem, while reducing jealousy and insecurity. Foster a deeper sense of connection and appreciation between you and your partner by practicing positive self-talk. In this exercise, you can combat the underlying causes of retroactive jealousy while deepening your connection. We want you and your partner to share the positive things you love about each other, you will take turns. The purpose of this exercise is to develop a more positive and optimistic outlook on yourselves, and each other!

First, figure out where you want to do this exercise. Get comfortable on your couch or in your bed, light some candles, dim the lights. Pour yourself some wine, if that's what you’re into and get comfy!

Next, you should take turns speaking. Start out by saying something positive about your partner, like “I appreciate it when you…” or ‘I love it when you….”. Make sure you are specific and meaningful with your compliments, try to think of things that are sincere. Consider particular behavior, habits, or traits that you admire.

When your partner shares their response, listen actively and pay attention to what they say. Receive their compliments with an open heart and mind. Keep this going for as long as you’d like! Keep it light hearted and fun, don’t be afraid to laugh with each other. Because we are human, there is a chance that negative thoughts can arise. If this happens, acknowledge them without judgment and try to refocus on something more positive.

The goal of this exercise is to strengthen your relationship by fostering a deeper sense of connection. You have to be open and vulnerable with your feelings and share your appreciation. This conversation can work to build trust in your relationship and hearing words of affirmation may boost your self-esteem.
